Volunteer Solicitors
Sussex Street Community Law Service acknowledges the continuing commitment and support of the volunteer solicitors, who assist with the delivery of the night legal service that operates from the centre on Monday and Thursday evenings. Without them we could not provide such a valuable service to so many, who may not otherwise be able to access advice. We were also pleased to offer many students the opportunity to be a part of such a valued service and to further their legal education and participation.
Secondees from Herbert Smith Freehills
Sussex Street recognises the valuable contribution made by HSF law firm, who support the service in providing many hours of pro bono assistance. Importantly, through a secondment program, graduate practitioners attend the service on a two-week rotation. HSF provided research, law reform and casework assistance to our solicitors. On top of this valuable assistance, Freehills provides pro bono work for clients when the service does not have capacity or expertise, provides advice to the Board of Management and access to library services.
Hall and Wilcox
We also wish to acknowledge Hall and Wilcox, who have provided legal advice and State Administrative Tribunal and Federal Court representation in our employment law matters. We are very grateful for their expertise and commitment to our service.
Clayton Utz
We wish to thank Clayton Utz for their valuable and generous employment law and disability discrimination advice; and representation in 2020.
Steven Jones Barrister
A big special thankyou to Mr Jones for his invaluable pro bono advice and representation for clients in family law matters.
Curtin Social Work Students
We are pleased that the partnership with Curtin University School of Occupational Health and Social Work continued in 2019/20, until Covid 19 disrupted the best of plans. We warmly thank Curtin staff for their supervision, support and guidance.
